SEVIRI routine cloud products of previous day

Allll the products available from this page are obtained from algorithms of SAFNWC/MSG currently tested improved version.

Cloud products are routinely extracted from SEVIRI imagery, using NWP fields forecasted by ARPEGE at 1.5 degree spatial resolution. Only the clouds products of the preceding day are made available here.

Cloud type (CT):

24 hourly images of MSG Cloud Type of the day before are available at a sampled coarse spatial resolution on the Earth disk and at a full spatial resolution on a smaller European area.

Three examples of animation loops can also be displayed at full temporal sampling to illustrate the effect of illumination on the Cloud Type product. They show the Cloud Type associated with the VIS0.6 and IR 10.8 µm bands at the full spatial resolution of SEVIRI (sampling distance of 3 km by 3km at sub-satellite point). Each area has a size of 200 rows and 500 columns of the original SEVIRI picture (spaceview projection at +000.0 degree), to allow a full visibility of animation loops on a 1024x768 screen configuration.

The legend presents all the 21 classes, even if all of them are not discernable. In fact, the separation between cumuliform and stratiform clouds has not been yet studied.

Cloud top pressure (CTTH):

Three examples of animation loops can also be displayed to illustrate the Cloud Top Pressure product and its variations with time. They show the Cloud Top pressure associated with IR 10.8 µm band at the full spatial resolution of SEVIRI (sampling distance of 3 km by 3km at sub-satellite point). The poposed areas are the same as for cloud type.
